WOYWW 10-14-15

Here in Chicago, it has finally started to cool down for fall. I love autumn, and everything about it. This year October makes me think of Christmas, since I am trying my hand at Christmas cards for the first time.

After making my first Christmas card last week, I realized I had cut the card the wrong way, at least wrong for a typical A2 card. So yesterday I tried out some more cards, along with some new gold ink I bought on Monday. Unfortunately I had quite a bit of trouble with my stamping. The images are coming out with broken lines. I don't know what the problem is, whether it's the stamp, my technique, or something else. I'm going to have to do some investigating. So I now have a couple of panels that I might use personally, but nothing more for my Etsy shop! Oh, well, back to the drawing board!

Thanks for stopping by! Check out the other talented crafters at stamping-ground.com.

  1. They look fine to me - how will people know they are hand made if they are too perfect? Might be that the ink is not wet enough or a soft pad underneath may help. Have a great week. Soojay xx 18

    1. Thanks, Sue! I was wondering if a harder surface might be better. I'll have to experiment and see.

  2. Your stamps have a surface treatment on them that makes them easy to release in manufacture. Either give the stamping surface a good rub with a clean eraser, or very lightly sand the stamping surface with an emery board or such. Sometimes laying over sticky tape, rubbing it and pulling it off is enough. Stress ye not, it is not your stamping technique!

  3. Those Christmas trees are really cute! Oh I have loved all my visits to Chicago. I especially love the Corner Bakery and the 4-story Crate & Barrel! Hope I get to have a visit next summer. And yes, I want to try Barry's tea. Sandy Leigh #37

  4. I live the contemporary graphic design of the trees...they're the cards I'd buy in the shops. I'm not into cutesy or nostalgic at all!! I hope some of Julia's suggestions work :-)

  6. Lots of sound advice there for sorting out your problems. I would try some other inks that are not metallic as they tend to be more juicy and that should help you to decide whether the ink is to blame. I presume you take the ink to the stamp rather than stamp to ink as that can prevent a good coverage of ink on the stamp. I usually go over new stamps with sellotape to get rid of the surface finish which most stamps have on them. Hope that helps. Have a great woyww and happy crafting, Angela x 26

  8. They look good to me, but I agree with Julia, many stamps do have layer on them, I often go over new stamps with fine sand paper. Take care Zo xx 31

  9. Hi Suzanne,
One of the benefits of "handmade" is that they are unique. I think your cards look just fine. I imagine you see flaws where others don't.

Thank you for visiting me already. It's so nice to get back to blogging!

    Happy WOYWW
